Christmas large crowds

It's that time of the year again, and we want to gently remind our valued staff and students about the importance of staying vigilant.

Unfortunately, large gatherings can attract individuals with harmful intentions, as evidenced by historical incidents, some of which have thankfully been averted but never garnered public attention. We'd like to bring your attention to the "Run Hide Tell" advice and video mentioned earlier. This straightforward yet highly effective guidance is designed to help our staff and students prepare for various situations they may encounter. It's a simple, non-alarming way to provide them with an easily recallable plan that could make a significant difference in their safety. We encourage you to consider highlighting this information through your communication networks, as it has the potential to save lives.

Radicalisation and the Internet

People of any age can face the risk of radicalisation, and it's essential to be aware that teenagers and young individuals might be particularly vulnerable at times. This vulnerability could be due to transitional phases in their lives, like starting college or university, or grappling with questions of identity and belonging.
It's crucial to understand that extremists are adept at exploiting feelings of insecurity and offering seemingly appealing solutions.

However, it's important to note that their motivations are not genuine, and their intent is to manipulate the narrative to further their radicalisation goals, rather than acting in the best interests of the individual involved.

Online antisemitism soars, with a 51-fold surge

ISD's research on the increase of online antisemitism following the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7th was featured on Euronews. The recent investigation highlighted a rise in online antisemitic incidents across both mainstream and fringe social media platforms since the start of the conflict.

The internet has undeniably facilitated the identification of individuals who might be susceptible to influence and drawn into extremist behaviour by radicalisers. Social media platforms and internet forums often become virtual spaces where people seek connection to alleviate feelings of isolation, loneliness, stress, anxiety, or rejection. Unfortunately, this can leave them vulnerable to exploitation by those looking to take advantage of these emotions. Radicalisers may attempt to connect with them, disguising themselves as a 'listening ear' or a 'friend' in forum discussions.
