Independent Review on the Classification of Extreme Violence – Southport Attack, 29 July 2024

On 13 March 2025, Jonathan Hall KC, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, published a comprehensive report examining the classification of extreme violence in the context of the Southport attack.

Key Findings from the Executive Summary:

✅The current legal definition of terrorism is sufficiently broad and does not require further expansion.

✅Strategies and insights from counterterrorism efforts are applicable when assessing risks posed by individuals motivated to commit extreme violence, whether driven by personal grievance or without ideological motivation.

✅The government is encouraged to consider the introduction of a new offence—modelled on existing terrorism legislation—to address the planning of non-terrorist mass casualty attacks.

Why our Operations Director is becoming an Apprentice...

At Azesta, we don’t just talk about lifelong learning - we live and breathe it. And now, it’s one of our own stepping boldly into the world of apprenticeships!

We’re incredibly proud to share that our Operations Director, Rachel Fort, has officially enrolled on the Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) at the University of Leeds. For Rachel, this marks the start of an exciting new chapter in her personal and professional growth - and it’s a powerful reminder that learning truly never stops.

In our recent blog, Rachel shares what inspired her to take this leap, how she plans to balance study with work and family life, and what she hopes to gain from the journey. From Strategic Management to Business Accounting, she’s diving deep into a four-year programme that will sharpen her leadership and enrich her contributions to the L&D community.

As someone who’s supported countless apprentices over the years, Rachel is now walking the path herself, demonstrating that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and inspire those around you!
