26•11•18 Welcome to the Short Term Rentalz weekly newsletter!

• Airbnb has found itself at the centre of a media maelstrom following its decision to remove around 200 listings in Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

The company said: “Many in the global community have stated that companies should not do business here because they believe companies should not profit on lands where people have been displaced. We know that people will disagree with the decision and we appreciate their perspective.”

In response Israeli cabinet minister Gilad Erdan has called for a boycott of Airbnb, and a group of Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria have filed a class-action lawsuit against Airbnb in Jerusalem District Court, on the grounds that Airbnb offers rental properties in numerous conflict regions across the world which are not subjected to any restrictions, such as Tibet.

And the backlash has quickly escalated to an international level. Beverly Hills city council in California is encouraging an Airbnb boycott, saying the decision “demonstrated hatred, prejudice, ignorance and hypocrisy”.

This one is likely to run and run.
