10•12•18 Welcome to the Short Term Rentalz weekly newsletter!

• Our interview with Tim Choate, CEO of RedAwning, gave a fascinating insight in to a number of facets of the short-term rental sector.

Choate, who has successfully started and sold two previous businesses, is clearly relishing his role - growing the company organically and through acquisitions. RedAwning’s recent addition of Leavetown Vacations, Jetstream and Blizzard are unlikely to be the last, and are a good illustration of how the sector is moving. Companies are looking at others who operate in a synergistic way with themselves, and rather than copy them, they are getting the cheque book out.

One of our predicted industry trends for 2019 was a significant increase in institutional investment and M&A activity, and RedAwning’s strategy is one which is likely to be replicated to some degree across the industry.

Choate said RedAwning is still looking at other deals: “We do still have a number of other conversations going but I think it will be a little while before we do the next one. It does take time and effort to ensure that everything is set up with each one and I think we are learning how to do that better.”

2019 is going to be an exciting year! Look out for part 2 of the Tim Choate interview on Short Term Rentalz this week.
