14•01•19 Welcome to the latest Short Term Rentalz weekly newsletter!
• The headline story from this week was the news that SAS EUROPE RECHARGE 2019 in Berlin will feature a short-term rental debate session, entitled "The end of alternative".
The International Hospitality Media-led event will feature the session, which is being hosted by IHM CEO Piers Brown with the lead motion of "Private accommodation is transforming global accommodation". There will be two proposers and two opponents of the motion.
Will Smith, head of Internationalisation at Plum Guide and Dustin Figge, founder, The Homelike, will propose the motion, and they will be opposed by Markus Lehnert, VP, international hotel development at Marriott International and Dean Schreiber, managing director of Oakwood Asia Pacific.
Recharge is primarily a two-day serviced apartment, apart-hotel, extended stay and short-term rental business event, uniting 140 prestigious leaders and delegates and aiming to make long-lasting connections by encouraging a way of thinking to challenge the business status quo. The debate will be on the second day of Recharge at Colonia Nova on Thiemannstrasse 1 from 3pm.
IHM CEO Piers Brown said: "The debate is light-hearted, but with a serious message as to whether short-term rentals can lose the mantra of "alternative accommodation" and move towards a mainstream hospitality choice for business and leisure accommodation bookers alike."
Recharge also precedes another big IHM event, the Serviced Apartment Awards, in which entries for the "best short-term rental platform / operator" category are still open until 31 January. The fourth edition of the awards night will celebrate the achievements of 16 award winners and shortlisted guests at a glittering ceremony at London's Park Plaza Riverbank on 14 March.
