04•03•19 Welcome to the latest Short Term Rentalz weekly newsletter!

• This week, the shortlisted entries for a short-term rental category at the 2019 Serviced Apartment Awards were revealed, ahead of the awards ceremony on March 14th at London's Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel.

The award for "Best Short-Term Rental Platform / Operator" includes six shortlisted companies: Air Agents, BridgeStreet, Maison Privee, The Plum Guide, ReloQuest and ServicedApartments.nl. This year's winners will hope to follow in the footsteps of Lavanda, who won in the category in 2018.

The shortlist for this category, as well as those for the remaining 15 serviced apartment awards, was compiled by an independent panel of expert judges, which includes travel buyers, consultants, investors, designers, journalists and architects.

The awards will be presented to the winners at the black tie gala dinner event, organised by International Hospitality Media.

In other London news, a number of leading Airbnb management platforms have been filmed explaining how they can landlords in the city bypass the UK's stringent short-term letting limits.

A report from BBC programme, Inside Out London, secretly filmed staff from firms including Hostmaker, CityRelay and GuestReady telling an undercover reporter how to bypass the city's letting laws, which stipulate a property cannot be rented out on platforms for more than 90 days a year.

Housing campaigner and MP, Karen Buck, said it was "shocking and deeply dispiriting" and it "undermines everything we were told about how short-let accommodation would work". Hostmaker said it would carry out an internal investigation while CityRelay said it advises landlords to get planning permission for rentals lasting more than 90 days.
