01•04•19 Welcome to the latest Short Term Rentalz weekly newsletter!

• The headline news from this week in the short-term rental space saw Google announce the expansion of its vacation rental experience in its Hotel Search product.

The recently-launched Google program aims to help property managers of vacation homes, apartments, and condos simultaneously grow their audience and customer base. The merchandising will be unique for each vacation rental, with a display customised for vacation rental units.

The companies to benefit from Google's announcement were the search engine's partners, such as Expedia, HomeAway, Hotels.com, TripAdvisor, RedAwning and VRBO, which simultaneously revealed that their entire property inventories respectively would be included in Hotel Search.

It represented the most extensive rollout of vacation rentals since a pilot scheme in 2017 with a limited number of rentals, however Airbnb rental accommodations are not currently part of the recently-launched platform.

That news followed on from RedAwning's statement in December that it had revamped its room-type functionality for displaying multi-unit properties on OTAs and gone live with Google Hotel Ads for multi-unit properties.

The significance of Google Hotels' vacation rental search and hotel platform expansion is that Google parent company Alphabet is aiming to establish a one-stop portal for travel booking, which includes options to compare accommodations on various platforms and facilitate bookings in one place.

Elsewhere this week, the inaugural Vacation Rental Tech Week is to be held this week in Barcelona, from 1-5 April, which will be an opportunity for property owners and managers from across the rental industry to connect with innovative technology partners.

Special meet-up events will be hosted by companies including Rentals United and Guesty, while there will also be talks from Transparent, Kigo and Beyond Pricing, among others.

VRTech events founder and Rentals United CMO Vanessa de Souza Lage said: “Barcelona leads the global conversation in innovating and scaling tech. It’s where we started the VRTech events, so it was natural to have the first ever Vacation Rental Tech Week here."

Meanwhile, I will be out in Barcelona from 1-3 April at KigoWorld so please do get in touch if you would like to hear more about ShortTermRentalz and how we can work together.
