• VacationRenter, a company aiming to become the "go-to" site to find a rental, has announced plans to expand internationally after achieving exponential growth.
The San Francisco-based startup, which aggregates the most suitable vacation rentals from sites to help travellers book their preferred accommodation, wants to make the time-consuming rental search process easier and seamless for travellers.
Using automation and AI technology, it selects accommodation options from vacation rental platforms and showcases the most fitting results according to the travellers' preferences.
Now, after its first year in operation, VacationRenter has continued to attract top talent to its team like Google executive Marco del Rosario, who has just been appointed as the firm's COO.
In an exclusive interview with ShortTermRentalz, del Rosario said: "With significant traction in the U.S., we now have our eyes set on global markets, where we will be adding international supply brands, localising content and rolling out multiple currency options."
By saving time and money for travellers, VacationRenter's automation and AI technology aims to counter the growing fragmentation of the rental market and help visitors make informed purchase decisions, while harnessing the expertise of a team that has deep knowledge of the travel sector.
In other news, Airbnb has made some key project announcements this week, starting with the launch of its Arabic-language website following a 63 per cent year-on-year growth in visitors from the UAE since signing a memorandum of understanding with Dubai Tourism in 2016.
Airbnb has also announced it has teamed up with biotech firm 23andMe to recommend heritage travel destinations to its traveller community and the latter's customers.
Heritage travel refers to the journeys travellers make to discover their family histories in their ancestors' home cities, towns and countries. Listed in Lonely Planet's "Top Travel Trends for 2019", it is proving particularly popular among the 60-90 year-old and millennial traveller demographics who generate the most revenue in "Experiences" bookings.
And finally, Airbnb has been announced as a platinum sponsor for this year's Serviced Apartment Summit Middle East and Africa in Dubai.
The event, organised by International Hospitality Media, is the only b2b conference in the MEA region for the serviced apartment, branded residence, aparthotel, corporate accommodation and short-term rental sectors and takes place on 16 September 2019.
