TOP STORY Town or Country Ltd in liquidation UK: Town or Country Ltd, the former parent company of Southampton operator Town or Country, has been liquidated. LATEST NEWS FEATURES VIDEOS Editor's comment 28-08-2019
• Sometimes you just get your timing right! After my comments in the newsletter last week regarding the surprising lack of emphasis on sustainable building in the serviced apartment sector, given its dramatically increased importance in the wider real estate industry, it's good to see my thoughts backed up by no less than Brookfield, the owner of SACO and one of the biggest global investment companies.
Brookfield has raised a $250 million war chest to develop or redevelop new and existing projects that have received or are expected to receive LEED Silver or higher, NABERS, BREEAM or equivalent certification. The money can also be used to help tenants hit sustainability targets or generally improve the energy efficiency of the properties Brookfield manages.
Brookfield Property Partners CEO Brian Kingston said: “We strive to minimise the environmental impact of our operations and believe that using resources in a responsible manner preserves our environment and results in significant operational cost savings.”
I look forward to seeing the Locke brand in particular raising the bar for sustainability in our industry.
