SASMEA 2019 interviews: Rami Shamaa and Paul Mallee, Maison Privee

Editorial comment

23•09•19 Welcome to the latest Short Term Rentalz weekly newsletter!

• This week, International Hospitality Media hosted Serviced Apartment Summit Middle East & Africa [SASMEA] in Dubai as business leaders from the short-term rental, hotel, co-working and supplier sectors gathered to reflect on the rapidly evolving UAE hospitality landscape.

The event, held at the Rove Dubai Marina Hotel and letswork co-working space, combined a number of sessions that were noteworthy from a short-term rental perspective, and networking opportunities, creating a wide-ranging agenda to cover the hospitality and real estate industry in the MEA region.

Some of the STR-specific highlights included a session focussed on "Short-term rentals: the end of 'alternative", a quick fire Q and A with Hadi Moussa, GM - MEA and Central Eastern Europe, Airbnb, and a 'deep dive' presentation into the local holiday home market by Ali Manzoor, Partner, Knight Frank MENA.

Speakers taking part in the conversation were GuestReady MD Reem Al Khatib, Airbnb's Moussa and Maison Privee co-founder Paul Mallee. Along with Mallee, the company's other co-founder, Rami Shamaa, sat down for a video interview with me at the event, and interviews with Al Khatib and Mahwussh Alam from OnePerfectStay will follow in next week's newsletter.

In other event news, ShortTermRentalz is today proud and delighted to be launching our inaugural Shortyz Awards, which will take place in London on Wednesday 11 March 2020.

Anyone can nominate themselves, their colleague or their company for a category at no cost from 1 October by emailing our website at shortyz@internationalhospitality.media from that date. Nominees will then be selected for shortlisting by a panel of industry experts, with the winners being announced at the Shortyz awards ceremony on 11 March.

As the global rental market is set to reach US$170bn in value by 2020, we feel this is the perfect opportunity to launch the Shortyz and bring the industry together for a recognised awards evening.

Discover what makes the Shortyz unique and why you should join me on the big night here.
