• Readers of a similar vintage to me will remember television adverts in the early 1980s for Remington electric shavers. The star of the adverts was Victor Kiam - or to give him his full, glorious moniker, Victor Kermit Kiam II.
Victor, famously, liked keeping his stubble in check with the Remington shaver so much he bought the company. The adverts had a simple but effective message, and were extremely memorable for it.
I was reminded of Victor this week when running a story about Jason Travers. The former Quest Apartment Hotels franchise relationship manager has left his job to become a Quest franchisee, opening the Quest Goulburn aparthotel, just outside Canberra, after five years in the role.
Not quite the same as buying the company, but certainly demonstrating a great deal of faith in Quest, its reputation and its franchise model. While working at Quest head office, Travers helped franchisees in the ACT and New South Wales regions, looking out for their welfare and serving as a conduit to the corporate office. He knows the model well and has sufficient confidence in it to take the plunge himself. We wish him luck.
