06•01•20 Welcome to the first ShortTermRentalz weekly newsletter of 2020!
• As we go into 2020, our first-ever Shortyz Awards move ever closer and given the huge volume of nominations received so far from right across the industry, we have decided to extend the deadline for submitting entries to 31 January.
The Shortyz are taking place on 11 March as a boat party on the Thames in London and nominations are flying in across our 13 award categories, including two categories for individuals: Rising Star and Pioneer. Well done to the likes of Vrbo, Sonder, Stasher, I-PRAC and TouchStay who have recently submitted their full entries!
We encourage everyone in the industry to get nominating your Shortyz Stars by emailing shortyz@internationalhospitality.media as early as possible before the deadline - make sure to include your name, contact details, categories you are entering and why you / they should win. This can either be in the form of 200 words per entry or a 90-second video - it's up to you! Check out our Shortyz event website here, where you can also find all the information about event categories, the nomination and judging process, the judging panel and sponsors.
Two recurring themes that are likely to shape the short-term rental industry in 2020 are guest verification and regulations, which is noticeable as Airbnb introduces its trait analyser software to determine the compatibility of guests with hosts and the likelihood that the former will damage listed properties. It comes in response to the news that the platform is being sued by property developer Michael Harold for £723,000 after 500 revellers stormed into his property despite it being listed for a family of four, causing £445,000 worth in damage.
Speaking to ShortTermRentalz at HOST 2019, I-PRAC MD Emma Mills highlighted the need to discuss the importance of regulations more in terms of verifying guests' identities when booking short-term rental properties, as well as the effect that consumer confidence is having on the industry.
2020 also promises to be a busy and exciting time for the IHM team and ShortTermRentalz - check out the events tab on the ShortTermRentalz website here to see what we are organising this year and get in touch with me at my email address below if you would like to find out more information:
Finally, the ShortTermRentalz team would like to wish all of its readers a Happy New Year!
