13•01•20 Welcome to the latest ShortTermRentalz weekly newsletter!
• Following last week's announcement that we are extending the Shortyz nomination deadline to 31 January 2020, we caught up with HomeAway regional director UKI, and Shortyz judge, Karen Mullins, for an exclusive interview to discuss the direction of the market over the next year.
In a wide-ranging interview, Mullins cited sustainability, the desire for unique accommodation and alternative destinations, and bleisure as key trends that will come to the fore over the next 12 months. Brexit, meanwhile, looks set to have an impact on UK consumer travel choice and prompt travellers to opt for more domestic trips and staycations.
Mullins is a judge for our inaugural Shortyz Awards boat party on 11 March 2020 and she expressed her excitement for the event as nominations continue to fly in across our 13 award categories, including two categories for individuals: Rising Star and Pioneer. Well done to the likes of GuestReady, D. Alexander, YAYS, Cuckooz and Stay Alfred who recently submitted their full entries!
We encourage everyone in the industry to get nominating your Shortyz Stars by emailing shortyz@internationalhospitality.media as early as possible before the deadline - check out our event website here for more information on categories, the nomination process and more.
In other news, our first event of 2020, RECHARGE, will be kicking off this time next week in Barcelona [20-21 January] and it promises to be an exciting opportunity for hospitality and real estate leaders with purpose to take part in short and punchy debates, stimulate collective conversation and drive businesses and the sector forward.
Among the highlights from a short-term rental perspective will be 'The future of cities, the future of real estate' workshop featuring Rentals United CMO Vanessa de Souza Lage, while T5 Strategies managing director Sean Worker will lead a debate about the 'new hybrid master lease investment model'. Worker has written a blog post here ahead of RECHARGE to discuss how travel tech, alternative accommodation, co-living and co-working are all rolling up together.
Check out the RECHARGE schedule here and we look forward to welcoming all of the attendees to Barcelona next week!
