04•06•20 Welcome to the latest ShortTermRentalz newsletter!

• The short-term rental sector may be temporarily in the doldrums, but that hasn't dampened the appetite of Silver Lake, which clearly sees fair winds ahead as it becomes a massive investor in the distribution space.

In the space of just 10 months, the company has participated in two funding rounds for Vacasa which have totalled more than $400 million.

And as the likes of Airbnb and Expedia hit choppy waters with the onset of the pandemic, Silver Lake participated in a $1 billion investment round for Airbnb, before joining Apollo Global Management in a $3.2 billion capital raise for Expedia shortly afterwards.

These are bold moves - the Financial Times has described Silver Lake’s coronavirus investments as a make-or-break moment for CEO Egon Durban. He is betting that the travel and hospitality space will return to relative normality sooner rather than later. With scientists, governments and commentators still playing a guessing game as they learn more about the virus daily, Durban has put his reputation as the digital era's equivalent to Warren Buffett squarely on the line.
