• A trip to London earlier this week really brought it home to me how hard the hospitality and travel sectors have been - and continue to be - hit by the effect of the pandemic.
The trains were empty, the roads were very quiet, the streets were subdued and the atmosphere
There is a school of thought that leisure travel will recover much faster than business travel when restrictions are finally lifted to all countries. But the serviced apartment sector is dependent on corporate clients for much of its demand, and the planning for recovery needs to start now.
There were some interesting, and indeed encouraging, thoughts from the panellists on our first ENGAGE webinar for travel buyers and providers yesterday. Hotelier and developer Tony Mathuru called for more cooperation across the sector, while travel buyer Linda Anderson of Beazley Group expressed cautious optimism, saying: “Initially people will be anxious to resume travelling, they will have reservations, particularly about international travel. I think it will come back quickly when it starts, but the first trip will be a difficult one for many people.”
