• It's heartbreaking to share the news that Ace Hotel London will not be reopening following its closure during lockdown. Having launched in 2013, it marked the first outpost outside of the United States for the Ace brand. To hear that its time in the capital has been prematurely cut short is a devastating blow not only for the staff, but the wider industry too.
The coronavirus pandemic is affecting us all in very different ways, both professionally and personally, and we all have a story to tell. I strongly encourage, even urge, that these stories are imbued with a sense of togetherness. In the face of adversity it's imperative that resilience is demonstrated through collaboration.
The IHM editorial team has compiled a list of 50 urban innovators who have all, in their own way, influenced where we stay, live and work. News about the Ace here in London is indicative of a struggling market, and urban environments across the globe, especially gateway cities, are bearing the brunt of the damage caused by Covid.
Those innovators have been selected from across many disciplines, though all are linked by their passion for the built environment. We'll be releasing the list in weekly instalments of 10 innovators in the run up to the Urban Living Festival, 25-26 November at Tobacco Dock in London. The hospitality industry needs a lot of help right now, but most importantly it needs brilliant minds leading the charge. We hope you enjoy the series.
