• Some encouraging news from around Europe this week as Amsterdam-based operator Yays has opened its eighth property, this time in The Hague.
The 53-key aparthotel is the sixth Yays property in its home country, joining others in Barcelona and Paris. An Antwerp property is next on the cards for the group.
And perhaps more intriguing is the collaboration between Cadogan and Under The Doormat to open a luxury aparthotel in London's Chelsea. Cadogan is a major landlord in the area and owns several hotels - such as 11 Cadogan Gardens and The Belmont Cadogan Hotel - but this is its first venture in to the serviced apartment space.
Its choice of operator is an interesting one, choosing a company with its roots in the short-term rental space rather than an established aparthotel operator. A few eyebrows were raised a couple of years ago when Air Agents - now Nestor - took over The Knaresborough serviced apartments in London as part of its Aura Collection. The Cadogan deal signals a further blurring of the lines between serviced apartments and the vacation rental sector.
