• It is hard to believe that seven months have already passed since we hosted our inaugural Shortyz Awards boat party in London, so we are delighted to be able to announce that the awards ceremony will return on Thursday 22 April 2021 with SIX new categories.
The entry period for the Shortyz is scheduled to open on Monday 9 November and further details about what you can look forward to for our 2021 event will be announced in due course. Keep up-to-date at our Shortyz website here.
Meanwhile, the six new Shortyz categories for 2021 include: • Best holiday or home exchange platform • Best leisure property management company • Best urban property management company • UK Staycation Award • Innovator / Disruptor Award • Courage in Adversity Award
The news was revealed on Tuesday's RockSTRz webinar, featuring the likes of Vrbo and OYO Vacation Homes, and we are excited to confirm that the series will be back early in 2021 - get in touch with me at paul@internationalhospitality.media if you would like to be considered to contribute.
Thanks to the hundreds of short-term rental professionals who tuned in and I look forward to having you join us for more RockSTRz in the New Year.
• The signs appear to be pointing towards Airbnb finalising its IPO process by the end of the year, even if no timeframe has been disclosed officially.
We reported that the home-sharing platform will list its shares on the Nasdaq stock market in preparation for going public, and split its privately held shares, thereby lowering its stock price per share. However, while the Airbnb IPO is seen as the most highly-anticipated float of 2020 [aiming to raise up to $3 billion], the index was partly blamed for Facebook's similarly-hyped but troubled IPO in 2012, as critics said the social networking site had had too many shares to sell and Nasdaq had placed too high a valuation on it.
• International Hospitality Media [IHM], the publisher of ShortTermRentalz, has also announced the launch of a series of Urban Living Lite online and offline events, following the postponement of the inaugural Urban Living Festival until 7-8 July next year.
Building up to and during week commencing November 23rd, IHM will be hosting a series of live face-to-face events with a digital option to join from October 22nd. Click here for the full schedule.
