The Shortyz are back for 2021!

Editor's comment

30•11•20 Welcome to the latest ShortTermRentalz newsletter!

• There was encouraging news this week that short-term rentals in three key US cities showed substantial month-to-month performance growth and posted higher occupancy than hotels, while in England, London recorded its highest occupancy level since February.

The data from Smith Travel Research [STR], which is expanding its benchmarking offerings into single- and multifamily short-term rental samples, highlights that short-term rentals will be a preferred accommodation type for more travellers post-Covid. A joint analysis by STR and AirDNA four months ago revealed that rentals had outperformed hotels in occupancy rates in 27 global markets during the pandemic, and travellers will opt for longer-term stays for the foreseeable future if they need to quarantine as booking lead times nosedive.

While optimism grows for the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines ahead of the holiday season, guests will continue to seek accommodation where they can effectively self-isolate and stay for longer periods of time, as will be the case in England where lockdown restrictions ease slightly in many parts of the country this week.
