• Happy new year to all our readers, wherever you are in the world!
It's clear that for the vast majority of us the next couple of months are not going to be any easier than the second half of 2020, but with the roll out of vaccination programs gathering speed, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I believe that from April onwards we will see a massive increase in travel, both leisure and business. There is a huge amount of pent up demand from people who are desperate to see new places, meet new people and renew business relationships that have been maintained online since March. All of which is great news for the serviced apartment sector, which is incredibly well placed to capitalise on the gradual relaxing of travel restrictions and corporate policies.
To highlight the issues facing the sector, throughout the first half of this year, we have a comprehensive SAN and Engage! webinar program which will be essential content for anyone involved in the serviced apartment, extended stay, aparhotel, business travel, agency, and travel management fields.
We're also kicking off series two of the Urban Living webinar series next week with a session on F&B. On January 13th we'll be looking at the various F&B options for operators of hotels, serviced apartments, student accommodation, senior living and other asset classes. The session will cover in-house operations, outsourcing, choosing the right partners, dark kitchens, the rise of the delivery culture and more.
Joining me for the session will be Erik Jacobs, partner, HORECA Investment Partners; Eric Jafari, creative director, edyn Group; Faraz Nagree, co-founder, Lean Kitchen Network; Heleri Rande, partner, Think Hospitality Group; and Jason Wischhoff, managing director at Benihana, Minor International.
