Podcast: Vered Raviv Schwarz, president and COO
BHN news editor Eloise Hanson speaks to Vered Raviv Schwarz, president and COO at Guesty, about traveller booking trends, how property owners and managers are diversifying, and what hoteliers can do to prepare for last minute bookings.
EDITOR'S COMMENT

• I enjoyed my conversation with Vered Raviv Schwarz, Guesty's president and COO, following the company's recent expansion from the short term rental market into boutique hotel management. Schwarz mentioned that across Guesty's platform, property managers are increasingly expanding into vertical markets to better accommodate travellers - be this for staycations, country escapes, or extended-stays.
"For extended-stays, [diversifying] can create more assurance about your rental income," Schwarz explains. "There's a reduced amount of operations and less guests and guest communications to manage." And with the lines continually blurring between work, living and travelling, Schwarz believes the industry will see "more living-as-a-service options offered".

• Accor's partnership with Faena Group is asserting the chain's position as a global leader in the lifestyle hotel segment. The venture, which will develop the Faena brand worldwide, is the latest from Accor following a recent all-share merger announcement with Ennismore. Although it is not yet determined whether Faena will be co-opted into the Ennismore deal, Accor's backing and distribution powers will be beneficial during recovery.
The crux of the matter will be the extent to which Faena can retain its independent identity. Is it possible to grow a small brand with the support of a conglomerate without losing sight of the original vision? Historically, Accor has been good at retaining the people who created the brands it acquires or partners with, and keeping hold of whatever essential quality made that brand an attractive target in the first place.
I will address this topic and more in the next Trailblazer webinar, on Monday 1st February at 2pm GMT, when I will be discussing hotel collections and conversion brands. Register for the session here.
