EDITOR'S COMMENT

17/02/21

• Following news that Kasa has been signed to manage another boutique hotel in San Francisco, it was great to catch up with the company's founder and CEO, Roman Pedan. Leveraging a centralised system to power buildings - from contactless check in, to cleaning, to revenue management - Pedan explains that this technology has enabled Kasa to support hotels when help was needed most.

For example, Kasa opened a hotel in the centre of San Francisco in July 2020, at a time when the hotel industry was on its knees. Kasa was able to take the hotel from closure to 70 per cent occupancy - it has been operating in the mid-60s since.

Pedan even mentioned that he's seeing guests request and desire the "experience" of a tech-enabled stay more than before. When demand is apparent it should signal greater investment in these types of systems in order to position a business advantageously, both from a guest perspective and a performance point of view. I suspect we'll hear further success stories from property management companies that utilise technology during the market's upturn.
