22•03•21 Welcome to the latest ShortTermRentalz newsletter!
• Following our inaugural awards in 2020, I'm delighted to be able to announce the shortlists in full for the 2021 Shortyz Awards today.
This year's 18 shortlists comprise 107 shortlisted companies and individuals from 16 different countries and all of them deserve our congratulations for making it this far already.
Professionals from across the global short-term rental industry are now invited to vote at our new voting platform HERE until next week's deadline, on Monday 29 March at 23:59 GMT.
This year, the 14 company categories are being decided by a 50:50 split between judges' scores and the public vote, the Pioneer, Rising Star and Innovator / Disruptor Awards are being decided solely by the public vote, and the Courage in Adversity Award has already been determined by judges' scores alone.
View the shortlists in full HERE.
You can also book your FREE tickets now to our virtual Shortyz Awards ceremony on Thursday 22 April 2021 HERE.
• In other news, online travel company Tripadvisor has denied adopting “one-way terms”, “double standards” and “subterfuge” on content use on its site, following accusations made by a number of accommodation owners and hosts.
After the firm was reported to have requested unlimited access to all website content by accommodation owners and hosts, Tripadvisor said the update related to terms and conditions for hotel property owners, not holiday rental properties on its site. It added that the update to its terms and conditions were “purely optional for owners and not required”, and that it had listened to feedback from hoteliers on the way it had been presented.
Tripadvisor will be keen to retain the owners and hosts who use its platform and reassure them that the update will not have a counter-productive impact on their businesses. It comes as the company is preparing to raise $300 million from a convertible note offering, after laying off close to a quarter of its global workforce last year.
