Podcast: Sotiris Kopatsaris, Future Hotels, on redefining hotel stays
BHN news editor Eloise Hanson speaks to Sotiris Kopatsaris, founder of Future Hotels, about how the company is supporting independent hotels, the relationship between technology and sustainability, and the changing demands of travellers and owners.
EDITOR'S COMMENT

• If there's one positive to take from the crisis it's the creation of new ideas and solutions. Hoteliers have been forced to think and act differently - from repurposing space and pivoting F&B operations, to the adoption of technology. Small independent hotels often lack the investment necessary to implement certain initiatives - Sotiris Kopatsaris aims to provide an answer to these challenges with Future Hotels.
Offering global marketing and distribution services along with digital and green resources, Future Hotels has similarities to the major hotel groups' soft brands. The vision is to tip the balance back in favour of independent hotels so they can competitively stand next to the larger brands.
When I spoke to Kopatsaris about his new venture, I was fascinated to hear his view on the relationship between technology and sustainability. Kopatsaris' own hotel, the Carpe Diem in Santorini, became climate positive last year. In the podcast he shares insights in to the best practices implemented to achieve this status, adding that Future Hotels was conceived as a result of the accreditation.
The first members are set to be announced over the coming months, and I look forward to hearing who's joined.
