• Migo, a new apartment home-sharing solution launched in partnership between Airbnb and software and data analytics provider, RealPage, is a game changer in the hospitality industry as we adapt to a more remote living + working environment.
The solution aims to make home sharing easier for everyone without infringing on neighbours or creating unnecessary workload, by allowing guests to have the freedom to live, work and travel from anywhere. Migo does this by streamlining the entire process through either its self-service or full-service tiers, and guests can use the app for remote entry, communication and schedule cleanings however they wish.
The timing of this partnership is intriguing too, less than a fortnight after Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky announced the company's "most comprehensive" service updates ever [103], which includes a nod to guests' desire for greater flexibility in where they stay and work, how they stay and work, and when they stay and work.
RealPage and Airbnb are clearly aligned in their mission to streamline and enhance the end-to-end travel booking experience, and this will open up new ways for guests to discover unique destinations and shape their trips as much as possible.
• As we approach what is expected to be a busy, albeit uncertain, summer season, Airbnb's new Community Fund in Edinburgh in Scotland reinforces Brian Chesky's vision for a "travel redistribution" as we begin to emerge from the pandemic.
Ahead of the city's summer festivities this August, the home-sharing platform will donate £5 from every booking in Edinburgh to local causes with the help of its host community, something which Airbnb says will "rebalance tourism in Scotland and ensure that the return of travel is safe, sustainable and benefits everyone".
With Airbnb being threatened by tightening restrictions in cities around the world, the company is encouraging its guest community to look further afield for their trips and boost tourism in the areas that have been most affected by the absence of tourists. As Chesky pushes his notion of the pandemic being a "reset" moment for us all, Airbnb will be keen to highlight its extra offerings, such as the Experiences programme, during the season.
