AirDNA forecasts 2022 return to major US cities
With the United States on the way to recovery, pent-up demand for travel is accelerating US short-term rentals into expansionary territory, according to AirDNA.

14•06•21 Welcome to the latest ShortTermRentalz newsletter.
• AirDNA's first-ever Short-Term Rental Economic Outlook makes for interesting reading, with the pent-up demand driving the performance of both small-town and destination markets in the USA, although there is optimism for a pickup in demand in the major US cities in 2022.
The struggles in urban areas have been well-documented during the pandemic, but as the vaccination rollout accelerates and attractions begin to reopen, the short-term rental data provider expects urban travel to recover in Q3/4 next year, with a full recovery in 2023.
Furthermore, as the rental sector has gained greater traction and strengthened consumer trust and sentiment, we can expect more travellers to venture out on extended trips, combining business and leisure, which will tie in with the shift towards increased flexibility in the way we live and work moving forward.
• Indeed, flexibility is the current buzzword in the industry, with Airbnb launching its 'Live Anywhere' programme, and Blueground introducing its Nomads flexible working model.
Airbnb's latest initiative will see 12 people from around the world selected to live exclusively in properties listed on the platform between July 2021 and July 2022.
Meanwhile, Blueground Nomads is designed to give the power of choice to the employee, so that they can feel 'at home' wherever they choose to work.
These serve to suggest that the ways in which we work and live will become more intertwined even as we emerge from the pandemic. Employers are also noticing this convergence, and their acceptance will have a large impact on our travel choices and employee wellbeing.
