• As we have been predicting throughout 2021 so far, investment in the short-term rental space shows little sign of abating, and more investors are seeking their share of the pie in anticipation for a post-pandemic travel boom.

 

One of those new players entering the segment is JetBlue Technology Ventures, the venture capital subsidiary of American low cost airline JetBlue Airways, which has announced its investment in vacation rental market intelligence company Transparent.

 

JetBlue's focus on investment in Transparent is notable, given the data provider has built a strong list of clients and partners that help it to analyse rates + occupancy, understand demand drivers, monitor competitors and analyse trends / patterns. Significantly, Transparent is getting funding from new investors, rather than existing backers, at a time when the company estimates the industry will generate $75 billion in gross booking value in 2021.

 

JetBlue's first venture into accommodation offerings, in particular short-term rentals, was first announced back in November, with president Andres Barry saying the rental brand would be curated and branded under JetBlue's exacting standards. 

 

This is further indication that investors outside of the traditional short-term rental space are eyeing funding opportunities within this vertical as it emerges from the shadows of more established lodging, and they will target respected industry partners to make their mark.
