EDITOR'S COMMENT
• A wave of concurrent recruitment stories on our news pages always feels like a good barometer of industry sentiment, and as this week has seen significant appointments across the operator, agency and development spaces, it can be taken as an indicator that the serviced accommodation space is gearing up to be prepared for the next phase of recovery.
From conversations I have had with industry figures, there appears to be a real expectation that when the August holiday season is out of the way, business travel is set to see a significant increase in activity.
Having travelled by air last week for the first time since January 2020, I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and relatively hassle free the process was. As individuals have clearly become much more confident to travel for leisure, I hope that translates in to more businesses feeling empowered to send their staff back out on the road.
Driven by the 'work from anywhere' phenomenon, guest expectations are becoming more specific and nuanced, particularly where they are working and what their work spaces should include. Similarly, travellers will be less willing to compromise on the exacting standards that they have come to expect from more traditional accommodation such as hotels, so the implementation of flexible bookings and cancellation policies, enhanced cleaning and technology adoption will all be considered essential.
