EDITOR'S COMMENT

• After reporting an increase in bookings in its August earnings report, Airbnb is facing renewed competition to entice new hosts since the pandemic as Vrbo expands its Fast Start program to Canada, France and the UK.

What is supposed to distinguish Fast Start, which launched earlier this year, is the increased visibility of properties on Vrbo's platform to generate booking and booking value upticks, as well as the minimum quality standards that make properties eligible, such as a 4.5 review rating, a Superhost status, or host earnings of at least £2,000 a year.

Vrbo's specific mention of "Superhosts" is a direct challenge to Airbnb's position in the market as it was a term coined by the latter, hinting that Vrbo is adopting a more aggressive strategy to attract an "influx" of hosts from their competitors.
