EDITOR'S COMMENT
• Marriott's new 'Best of Both' pilot offer, through which guests booking rentals on its Homes & Villas [HVMI] platform can also experience amenities at nearby Marriott Bonvoy hotels, shows that the global hotel brand sees its vacation rental vertical as a major driver for the future revenues of the company, alongside the hotel segment.
What may have started out as something of a calculated gamble with the launch of HVMI in 2019 is now reaping rewards for Marriott. The platform is growing at breakneck speed, having increased its inventory by eight times its launch size in the first 20 months, signed up a host of property manager partners, and reportedly restricted managers from working with hotel competitors such as Hyatt and Hilton.
Similar to Marriott's original home-sharing venture with Tribute Portfolio Homes in 2018, Best of Both is also a pilot program that allows guests to use the Bonvoy reward points they have earned to put towards future stays or experiences at both hotels and home rentals, and is designed to highlight the HVMI business and solidify brand loyalty with Marriott.
• Don’t miss our next RockSTRz webinar tomorrow [12 October, 4pm BST], when I'll be discussing the pros and cons of buying or renting furniture for rental units with an expert panel, including Lauren Maylor, creative director at Loft; Alex Stewart, managing director at H+G Presentation Services; Andria Santos, CEO and founder of Fülhaus; and Andrew Southwood, Director, Culbone Finance.
