EDITOR'S COMMENT
• Despite the concerns raised from the pandemic about people's health, the issue of the health of our planet has never been far from the headline agenda. Now, with the UN Climate Change Conference [COP26] on the horizon, the conversation around environmental sustainability has shifted from a talking point to a matter of urgency.
This week, I sat down virtually with three sustainable tourism advocates and experts - Bob Garner, Nikki Mattei and Matt Landau to discuss their backgrounds and entries into the short-term rental industry, how sustainability is being addressed in the space, and the organisations we should be aware of in terms of leading the way in sustainable tourism.
COP26, taking place between Sunday 31 October and Friday 12 November in Glasgow, will be a prime opportunity for everyone across the tourism ecosystem to acknowledge the global threats from climate change and recognise how we can be working collaboratively to reduce our waste and emissions to prevent climate emergencies in the future. The scale of coverage for this historic conference is likely to be unprecedented, so leaders in the short-term rental industry should listen closely to the steps they can take to be more environmentally friendly and also to the opportunities they can bring in to inspire their guests to do the same.
