EDITOR'S COMMENT
• And just like that, another year is almost over. Despite another challenging 12 months for us all, particularly with the surfacing of the new Omicron variant, the short-term rental industry is in a much healthier place than it was a year ago.
This week, I delved into my predictions for the year ahead in the short-term rental industry and the signs are already cautiously encouraging.
Vacasa's SPAC merger and Sonder's imminent entrance into the public markets, as well as the investment in tech, operations and M&A, highlight the scope for record amounts of funding to be injected into the short-term rental space in 2022. The sector has already proved its resilience and adaptability during the pandemic to cater to digital nomads seeking flexible housing solutions, domestic travellers and adventure seekers, and I expect this to continue for the foreseeable future. Check out my 2022 predictions article in full here.
The end of another year also means that the Shortyz Awards are just around the corner in 2022, and you can now submit your entries for any of the 20 awards on offer here.
For the third edition of the Shortyz, we have three new categories - the Consumer champion award, Best mobile rental accommodation company and Best holiday site operator - as well as two expanded categories - Best drive-to market operator and Best subscription / membership model company. The deadline for entry submissions is 23:59 GMT on Friday 11 March 2022 - view the full list of categories here.
The 2022 Shortyz Awards will take place on Wednesday 18 May 2022 as a hybrid live in-person and digital awards ceremony - stay tuned for more details very soon!
Finally, as this is the last STRz newsletter of 2021, I'd like to wish all our readers a peaceful and relaxing festive season, and thank you all for engaging with us during what has been an unprecedented time for everyone. We'll be back in the new year - let's hope for great things in 2022!
