EDITOR'S COMMENT
• 2020 and 2021 may have shown the dangers of making premature predictions, but with the vaccination rollout continuing and continents reopening, 2022 is primed to mark a new era for travel and hospitality. With this in mind, the editorial team at International Hospitality Media [IHM], George Sell, Eloise Hanson and I, have unveiled our A-Z list for what we can expect in those sectors in the year ahead.
The last 12 months have seen wide-reaching innovations in payments, technology, alternative accommodation models, mobility and more, and 2022 is set to follow in the same vein. Terms such as blockchain, cryptocurrency and NFTs are seamlessly entering the hospitality vocabulary, while advances in augmented reality and an emphasis on even more personalised experiences will be worth keeping an eye on.
After an immensely difficult period for travel and hospitality, there is plenty of cause for optimism looking ahead. COP26 will spur the sectors into replacing words with action, startup investment will soar, and the aviation industry's sustained recovery will enable us to start planning our jet-setting agendas with more certainty, even if new Covid variants still present a concern.
