EDITOR'S COMMENT
• In the face of adversity, companies, organisations and individuals from across the travel and hospitality sectors have demonstrated remarkable leadership and solidarity with refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine by launching charitable initiatives.
Whether it has been donating funds, housing refugees or compiling accommodation directories, the actions of the likes of Airbnb, Hopper, HomeToGo, Gîtes de France, Stay The Night, NUMA Group, Soho House and Touch Stay deserve recognition, and one hopes that more initiatives will follow as the crisis deepens in Eastern Europe.
The sentiment of collaboration and support that was so evident across the industry at the start of the pandemic will be crucial to helping a country that has experienced such a devastating human cost and to relocating those displaced by the invasion, which is leading to one of the most substantial migratory waves seen since the Second World War. There will also be considerable repercussions for the travel and hospitality sectors that benefit from Russian business and have been recovering since Covid.
Stay tuned for our next piece this week as we take a look at the wider implications of the war on travel and hospitality, as well as how you can continue to support those in need.
