EDITOR'S COMMENT
• Urban Living Festival is right around the corner and, with just nine days to go until IHM's flagship event, there is plenty to look forward to from an STR perspective.
It will be fascinating to hear from Amanda Cupples, general manager for the UK and Northern Europe at Airbnb, who will be speaking on Day Two about "How flexible living is shaping the future of urban accommodation" [09:45-10:30].
Among the stellar list of speakers and exhibitors, the likes of Lavanda, Host & Stay [part of the SDDE Smith Group], Minut, PriceLabs and TurnoverBnB will also be present as urban innovators and investors at the cutting edge of contemporary hospitality, real estate and living come together to define the future of how and where people will stay, live and work.
That's why I'm thrilled as editor to offer you, the readers of STRz, an exclusive, limited-time only, 20 per cent discount off festival tickets, valid until Friday 1 July. Use the code ULF22STRz when purchasing your tickets here.
Check out the full ULF schedule here.
The timing of Cupples' appearance is pertinent, with plans being drawn up by Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, to crack down on second homeowners in the UK renting out their properties as holiday lets on platforms such as Airbnb. It comes as resistance intensifies in rural and coastal communities against second homes being rented out as holiday lets, with the most vocal campaigners complaining that locals and key workers are being priced out of the housing market.
