EDITOR'S COMMENT
• To say that 2022 was a topsy-turvy year for hospitality and real estate would be an understatement and the first month of 2023 suggests that this year will be no different, with a number of funding rounds and layoff rounds already announced. In the latest must-read feature by the IHM editorial team, we reveal our definitive Z-A list for 2023, detailing the key trends and terminology you can expect to hear frequently this year.
This year's Z-A is an extensive summary of trends relevant to all of the hospitality and real estate segments we cover at IHM, including short-term rentals, boutique hotels, serviced apartments, coliving, coworking, build-to-rent, student housing, senior living and more. The 26 words, people and companies that made it onto our Z-A stretch across technology, sustainability, legislation, lodging, investment, destinations, travel choices and the economy.
Following the news that Vacasa and Inspirato were reducing their workforces by 17 per cent and 12 per cent respectively, one suspects that 2023 will be similarly turbulent to 2022, but that there is also scope for further innovation, investment and consolidation.
