EDITOR'S COMMENT
• We're really looking forward to attending this week's Skift Short-Term Rental Summit in New York City, following our announcement in February regarding a content and media partnership to share fresh ideas and insights at our respective events.
At the same time, I'm excited to be co-moderating a discussion on 'Creating Smarter Regulatory Frameworks' alongside Skift reporter Srividya Kalyanaraman with Merilee Karr [UnderTheDoormat Group and UK STAA] and Tiffany Edwards [Colletta Consulting]. The timing could hardly be more coincidental as Airbnb filed its third lawsuit against New York City Council for “extreme and oppressive” restrictions against short-term rentals that are scheduled to come into effect next month. We will seek to cut through the noise and analyse how commercial STR firms are working together to drive smarter regulation.
A momentous week for short-term rental news, including one of the largest fundraising rounds to date in the vacation rental tech space for Hostaway and a third acquisition for Blueground in 12 months, sets us up neatly for a day of varied discussions and we'll be recording some more video interviews with industry leaders to keep an eye out for soon.
Stay tuned as well for more information very soon about our own STR Summit on 18 October in London, also in partnership with Skift.
• Make sure to book your virtual place for our next STRz webinar tomorrow [6 June - 4pm BST] on 'What happens when it all goes wrong? Prevention techniques to avoid catastrophe'. I'll be accompanied by a stellar panel consisting of Vinayak Mahtani [bnbme holiday homes], Woody Wade [Wade & Company SA], Jacobie Olin [C2G Advisors] and Karen Hanton [toptable.co.uk] - sign up for free here.
