EDITOR'S COMMENT
I really enjoyed my trip to New York City last week when I attended three back-to-back conferences, starting with the NYU International Hospitality Investment Conference before the inaugural Skift Data & AI Summit and the Skift Short-Term Rental Summit, connected with industry professionals, and listened to a host of talks that answered - and sometimes raised - questions about the sector.
At the Data & AI Summit, there were fascinating discussions around the deployment of generative AI in smart searches, the evolving perception of guest loyalty, the rise in conversational technology and future forecasts in the travel / hospitality sector. While AI innovations are emerging and being adopted at a rapid rate, one particular quote from Brook Bay Capital's Gilad Berenstein struck home to me: "We maybe overestimate what we can do in one year and underestimate what we can do in ten years’ time.” That time will tell.
Similarly in the short-term rental segment, there is certainly a sense that we are entering a new era, whether we refer to the regulatory landscape, the adoption of technology, or the recognition and visibility given to individual hosts and owners. There were plenty of key takeaways from the Summit - read my roundup now at this link.
